Lawyer in Ukraine
Legal assistance with matters involving Ukraine: advice, court representation, documents and support for businesses. You can also contact us from abroad. Work in a particular city, a lawyer’s involvement and the authority required are assessed against the circumstances and the stage the matter has reached.
Areas of Assistance
Key Information
Enquiries from Ukraine or abroad
If you are abroad, first establish which steps are needed specifically in Ukraine. These may include obtaining a document, court representation, establishing inheritance rights or checking a transaction. Personal attendance, representation and the use of foreign documents are assessed for the particular procedure rather than on a blanket assumption that everything can be done remotely.
State the city, authority or court in your enquiry, if known. We consider matters concerning Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Lviv, Rivne and other locations, checking whether the professional required is available. A matter’s connection with a city does not mean there is an office open for appointments without prior arrangement.
02Who We Help
Legal work and related documents
Advice can be given during a consultation, in writing or online and may include reviewing case papers, a contract or a demand received. The next stage requires a specific instruction: preparing a document, negotiating, making an application or representation. A first message does not, in itself, mean that a lawyer is already taking procedural steps on the client’s behalf.
Ukrainian and international clients can agree the working language and any need for an interpreter. Documents, translations, notarial acts and enforcement serve different purposes and have their respective providers. Their involvement, authority and separate costs must be established before the work, rather than assumed to be included in every consultation.
03Legal services in Ukraine:
Family and inheritance matters
We consider divorce, including where one spouse is a foreign national, division of assets, maintenance and child support, establishing paternity, adoption and marital agreements. For children, their whereabouts, previous decisions and the specific claim matter. Divorce should not be equated with automatic resolution of every property or parental dispute.
When dealing with an inheritance we identify the documents, assets, basis of entitlement and steps already taken. Assistance may also concern a foreign beneficiary or someone abroad. A representative’s authority, notarial procedure and availability of court protection are checked separately; a lawyer’s assistance does not replace notarial acts.
Property, civil and insurance matters
We consider enquiries about checks on residential and commercial property, land, contracts and investments. A foreign national’s purchase requires assessment of the particular property and applicable conditions. A property dispute, checks before payment and completing a transaction may require different documents and sequences of steps.
Civil assistance covers ownership, use of property, contracts and other obligations. For an insurance matter, we examine the policy, refusal, calculations and evidence of loss. The amount a client expects must be supported by evidence; none of these services guarantees recovery of any sum claimed.
Legal representation in proceedings and enforcement
Potential work includes preparing procedural documents, criminal defence and representation according to the client’s status. Applications to the police, prosecution authorities or courts require the available papers and important dates. Fact-finding, enquiries into suspected fraud and document checks are carried out lawfully, without promising access to restricted data.
After court proceedings, separate assistance with enforcement may be needed. Applications to the European Court of Human Rights are also assessed under the relevant conditions; it is not a universal additional appeal for every disagreement. Whether each instruction can be accepted is checked against the procedure and documents.
Companies, contracts and debt recovery
For businesses, we consider registration, corporate matters, investment projects, insolvency, contracts and checks on partners. Tax consultancy is based on actual transactions and documents; lawful planning does not mean a promise to avoid all taxes. Ongoing business legal support is agreed against a separate list of tasks.
Debts, commercial disputes and international arbitration are assessed against the contract and the grounds for the relevant procedure. Intellectual property requires the specific subject matter, the origin of rights and the purpose of registration or protection. A legally available claim does not guarantee the other party’s solvency or a predetermined decision.
Official documents and translations
We can consider obtaining replacement documents, certificates, extracts, official records and court papers on appropriate grounds. For use abroad, we clarify requirements for an apostille, consular legalisation, legal translation or notarised translation. The country and receiving institution determine what is needed, rather than one arrangement for every document.
For a notarial matter, we consider preparing contracts, declarations, incorporation papers, inheritance documents or a will. Certification is carried out by the appropriate notary. Personal attendance, originals and authority are agreed in advance so the prepared text matches the actual step required.
What to include in your first message
Send a brief timeline, your objective, current country and known deadlines. Include documents supporting the key circumstances. For a document from occupied or inaccessible territory, state exactly what has been retained; the practical means of obtaining or confirming it requires a separate check.
The scope, fees and third-party costs are determined once the task is clear. If several professionals are needed, each stage is agreed separately. Report changes in circumstances and new decisions before the next step, as they may affect the initial assessment.
